November Digital Literacy Centers for Kindergarten

Literacy centers are pivotal in the early childhood classroom, and it can feel hard in the distance learning, hybrid, or in person classroom environments! I have created 10 November digital literacy centers for early literacy skills, including phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, and writing. These skills can be learned through fun and engaging digital centers.

Why digital literacy centers?

  1. These centers are no prep! Teachers are busy people! Anything that can save us time is a win.
  2. Digital literacy centers are differentiated to meet the varying needs of your students. The activities can be tiered and students can complete the activities easily.
  3. Students can easily turn in work and receive teacher feedback quickly, no copies or papers required.

These digital literacy centers target many skills, to include first, middle, and last sounds, sight words, reading comprehension, CVC word building and reading, as well as writing skills.

My students love completing their digital center activities. Digital literacy centers can also serve as enrichment for early finishers. In the virtual classroom, instruction is often whole group and early childhood teachers may feel that they lack the opportunity to differentiate to best meet the needs of students.

Sight word recognition is another critical skill in the early childhood classroom. My students love to read, build, and unscramble sight words. The repetition aids in sight word recognition.

Another skill in the early childhood classroom is phonics and phonemic awareness. Students begin to decode CVC words which continues to help build early literacy skills. For this CVC game, students build CVC words using the letters below the boxes.

Students in early childhood are beginning to write. They start by sounding out words, possibly adding high frequency words to their writing, and eventually learn to write sentences and stories. My students love themed word walls, and this Thanksgiving word wall allows students to practice using Thanksgiving words in writing.

I hope these activities are helpful to you and your students! If you’re interested in these activities, you can click any of the images or click here to check them out!
