Kindergarten Fall Apples and Pumpkins Math and Literacy Centers

06/21/2018 No Comments

It’s crazy to think that fall will be just around the corner in no time! Who’s ready for pumpkin spice latte’s, boots, pumpkin patches, and hay rides?! Just me? That’s cool…

My students and I really enjoyed learning all about apples and pumpkins. We enjoyed reading lots of high quality apples and pumpkins books:

From Seed to Pumpkin (Wendy Pfeffer) gives a great summery about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Similarly, From Seed to Apple Tree clearly shows the life cycle of an apple seed.

Included in the unit are the following math and literacy activities:
-sight word roll and write
-sight word write the room
-sight word play dough mats
-sight word readers (play, see, like)
-sight word scramble game
-clip the beginning sound
-fall words write the room
-first sound apple trees
-sight word tree craft
-cut apart fall sentences
-first sound pocket chart game (squirrel and acorn)
-apple life cycle poster and worksheet
-pumpkin life cycle poster and worksheet
-math writing practice strips (numbers 0-20)
-math matching cards (match number to picture of objects)
-math ten frames write the room

A few of the centers are below:

This is a first sound clip game.

Sight word readers for the sight words see, like, and play with dots under the words to help develop one-to-one correspondence.

Sight word write the room!

Fall words write the room

Sight word unscramble. The kids worked in pairs since this activity can be a bit tricky, but they acted like little detectives trying to figure out the scrambled up word. Too cute!

Number writing practice-handwriting for the win! 🙂
