All of the activities are made for the beginning of school. The games and activities are developmentally appropriate for young learners, engaging, and lots of fun! You can click the image below, or go to the end of the post for a link to my TPT store 🙂 Explanation of the activities is below.
Upper Case and Lower Case Letter Matching
For this activity, students will match the upper case letter to the lower case letter. There is a color version, as well as a black and white version. I also included two differentiated recording sheets to meet the needs of your students.
Alphabet Write the Room
This write the room center covers letters A-Z, and comes both in color and black and white. The recording sheets are differentiated.
School Rules and Me Concept Board
Pardon the terrible picture! I took it at home and only had a small bulletin board to show what it should look like. So obviously, it is missing pieces, but the general idea is there! Once we are back at school, I will replace this picture with a more fitting image! The concept board is intended to be used as a bulletin board. In my classroom, it also serves as a vocabulary center. Where you see the essential question, I have my students answer it on a sticky note and stick their answers on the board. The vocabulary words recording sheet is also differentiated.
Sight Word Hunt
For this activity, students use a magnifying glass to search for the hidden (and tiny!) sight words. There is a recording sheet to go with the game.
First Sounds Write the Room
This activity helps lay the ground work for decoding CVC words. It can also double as a marker game if the cards have been laminated.
Writing Center Pages
I made the pages with sentence starters to help early writers. The sentence starters include, “I am, I have, I like.” The writing pages also include a labeling activity, listening comprehension pages, and two first day of school writing pages.
Count the Room
This activity gets students up and moving! The count the school objects, and record on a recording sheet.
Number Writing Practice
Forming both letters and numbers correctly early on is so important to young learners! Number writing cards help promote proper number formation.
Clip and Count
My students love using clothespins with games. A plus side to clothespin clip games? Using the clothespins helps strengthen muscles involved in fine motor movements.
These activities and many more are in my Back to School Beginning of the Year Math and Literacy Centers.
Cheers!
