Alphabet Interactive Notebooks

Hi everyone! I hope your weeks are off to a great start! I’ve been learning more about interactive notebooks (they’re so cool!), and decided to make an alphabet interactive notebook. When I teach letters and letter sounds at the beginning of the year, I unfortunately have relied on worksheets to measure student understanding. In an effort to be better and move forward, I created an alphabet interactive notebook resource. My goal is for no alphabet worksheets this year!

I’m super excited about using these because I have seen how interactive notebooks encourage student engagement. Also, I will have built in data points on student understanding.

My alphabet interactive notebooks cover letter sounds, writing the correct upper case letter corresponding to the lower case letter or vice versa, and 6 activities for letters A-Z. The 6 activities for each letter are:

  1. First sounds cut and paste
  2. Upper case and lower case handwriting practice
  3. Find and color the letter
  4. Rainbow write the letter
  5. Letter/not letter cut and paste
  6. Draw a picture beginning with the letter sound

You can check out this resource if you click here, or click the interactive notebooks image at the top or bottom of this post!

Here is a phonics page. Under each picture, students write the letter representing the first sound.

This activity is where students write the corresponding lower case letter under the upper case letters.

Here are 4 of the 6 alphabet activities. From right to left are the first sounds cut and paste, upper case and lower case handwriting practice, find and color the letter, and rainbow write the letter.

Here are the two other letter activities: the letter/not letter sort, and where students draw a picture beginning with the letter.

Cheers!
